COLLABORATION WITH GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS
HEALTH & FAMILY PLANNING:
BSWI has been collaborating with the State’s various health and sanitation programs like Pulse Polio Campaigns, Leprosy Cure Campaigns, Mother & Child health programs, Nutrition programs, family planning programs and various linkage development areas.
CURATIVE SERVICES FOR THE NEEDY:
BSWI has set up a curative clinic cum referral center in its campus that is operating since the year of 1987. Annually, the clinic provides curative services to an average of 5000 needy people who suffer from various diseases. BSWI has good working relationship with the sub-divisional hospitals as it refers critical patients for better treatment.
CHILD & WOMEN FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES (CWFC):
BSWI is piloting an innovative approach whereby it integrates activities in the areas of nutrition, healthcare, education and protection in particular geographical areas. The aim of this rights-based approach is to encourage active participation and co-operation of community elected representatives, service providers such as doctors and teachers, local self-help groups and the women and children themselves in order to create child and woman friendly communities. BSWI trains local youths and members of SHGs in all aspects of healthcare so that they can work effectively in the field.
ENHANCING PEOPLE'S CAPACITY TO TAP MGNREGA SCHEME
Through series of workshops, meetings, rallies and seminars with the project area PRIs in different districts, BSWI has been able to tap government resources, especially the MGNREGA and BRGF schemes for the all-round development of rural areas and in improving the agricultural activities. The works undertaken through these programs are (i) road repairing/making (ii) bore well repairing/installation (iii) hand pump repairing (iv) housing for the BPL families (v) re-excavating local canals and community ponds for minor irrigation purposes (vi) promotion of rural forestry (vii) promotion of kitchen gardens (viii) promotion of fishery and excavation of individual ponds of BPL families.
LEVERAGING GOVERNMENT FUNDS THROUGH SHGs
BSWI has encouraged it SHGs leverage credits from nationalized banks, state-owned bank (Bongiyo Grameen Bikash Bank) and Credit Cooperatives run by Government of West Bengal. More than 60 SHGs have availed credit from these mainstream institutions to the tune of Rs. 50 lakhs so far.
